That\u2019s why diet is&nbsp;an integral&nbsp;part of&nbsp;any&nbsp;skincare routine\u2014 it\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/drhowardmurad.com\/food-is-medicine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">proven<\/a>&nbsp;that a diet&nbsp;full of&nbsp;cell-hydrating omega-3 fatty acids and water-rich foods&nbsp;is essential for skin health.\u202fYou can use the most expensive topicals in the world, but if you\u2019re not&nbsp;also&nbsp;caring for your internal health,&nbsp;it\u2019s counterproductive.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only three&nbsp;rules I follow when it comes to my diet&nbsp;are:&nbsp;I don\u2019t limit myself,&nbsp;I don\u2019t follow recipes&nbsp;(I always adjust them to my liking)&nbsp;and&nbsp;I&nbsp;savor everything I eat\u2014because food should create joy, and that joy&nbsp;radiates&nbsp;from the inside out.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Breakfast<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first thing I do when I wake up is take my supplements:&nbsp;a multivitamin,&nbsp;omega-3&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/drugs-supplements-glucosamine\/art-20362874\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">glucosamine<\/a>. Then I have fried&nbsp;eggs&nbsp;with cooked salmon and veggies, which is a balanced, protein-packed way to start the day.&nbsp;And&nbsp;I always&nbsp;have a cup of coffee with a splash of soy or oat&nbsp;milk.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lunch&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I&nbsp;usually&nbsp;have&nbsp;a&nbsp;well-balanced&nbsp;salad&nbsp;with tons of raw veggies, nuts or seeds and a protein, like fish or chicken.&nbsp;Then my&nbsp;wife makes me one or two glasses of what&nbsp;we&nbsp;call&nbsp;the \u201cgreen drink\u201d\u2014a juice with&nbsp;tons of&nbsp;leafy greens, including&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/nutrition\/watercress-benefits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">watercress<\/a>,&nbsp;which is a nutrient powerhouse.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mid-day snack&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I eat when I feel hungry, and that involves snacking.&nbsp;Some of my favorites are string cheese, walnuts,&nbsp;biscotti, goji berries&nbsp;and&nbsp;raw veggies like red cabbage, string beans and asparagus.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And since I can never get enough of those&nbsp;omega-3s, my wife&nbsp;cooks up some fish&nbsp;every few days&nbsp;and cuts it&nbsp;into little cubes\u2014a&nbsp;convenient&nbsp;and delicious&nbsp;way to&nbsp;support&nbsp;brain&nbsp;health,&nbsp;reduce&nbsp;cholesterol&nbsp;and&nbsp;maintain a&nbsp;healthy metabolism.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dinner&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At least once or twice a week, my wife and I order mushroom pizza from our favorite local spot,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gjelina.com\/la\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gjelina<\/a>.&nbsp;This is not your average pizza joint slice! All of their ingredients are locally sourced,&nbsp;it\u2019s not greasy&nbsp;and the thin crust is nice and light.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some nights we make&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/diet\/grass-fed-beef-good-for-you#1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">grass-fed steak<\/a>&nbsp;or turkey burgers, which&nbsp;are&nbsp;full of protein&nbsp;and iron, and&nbsp;can&nbsp;contain&nbsp;as much as five times the amount of omega-3 fatty acids as regular grain-fed meat.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Beverages&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I&nbsp;drink&nbsp;water throughout the day, plus I eat&nbsp;a lot of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wellconnected.murad.com\/popsicles-and-zucchini-zoodles-meet-your-favorite-new-water-rich-foods\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">water-rich foods,<\/a>&nbsp;like fruit and raw vegetables&nbsp;which&nbsp;help keep me hydrated&nbsp;longer.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Occasionally I\u2019ll have sparkling water mixed with&nbsp;pomegranate juice,&nbsp;which is&nbsp;loaded&nbsp;with antioxidants and has&nbsp;great&nbsp;anti-inflammatory properties.&nbsp;I also love kefir for&nbsp;probiotics. But it\u2019s not all virtuous\u2014I also love the occasional glass of wine or scotch as a&nbsp;treat.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">After dinner&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>My wife and I&nbsp;almost always&nbsp;have popcorn, which is high in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/food-recipes\/health-benefits-popcorn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fiber<\/a>, while we wind down and watch TV or a movie.
