A quick and easy way to do that is to say&nbsp;\u201cNOPE.\u201d&nbsp;Literally&nbsp;cut yourself off&nbsp;mid-sentence&nbsp;from&nbsp;whatever&nbsp;bad thing you were about to say and&nbsp;Just.&nbsp;Say.&nbsp;Nope.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to love your body, the first step is to&nbsp;stop&nbsp;sh*t talking it.&nbsp;I wrote my book,<em>&nbsp;Body Talk,&nbsp;<\/em>to give women&nbsp;the&nbsp;tools they need to do just that. I didn\u2019t disgust the entire internet with my being, as I had originally worried I would. Instead, I was overwhelmed with kindness from women who were excited to see my body type\u2014their body type\u2014wearing clothes they\u2019d assumed they couldn\u2019t \u201cpull off.\u201d They wanted to know where I found shoes for my size 12 feet, they wanted to know the brand of my leather jacket, and they wanted to see even more of me, if you can believe it. I couldn\u2019t.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Their positivity sparked a little something-something in my brain.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#30408f\"><p><strong>\u201cIs it possible,\u201d I began to wonder, that there isn\u2019t <\/strong><br><strong>ANYTHING wrong with my size or shape?\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>And that question, though hypothetical* at the time, started the chain reaction that led to the next phase of my life. Affirmations from other women continued as I began to wade deeper and deeper into the pool party of body acceptance and positivity. Women told me in person and on Instagram about the shorts they finally wore that they never thought they could, about the bikini pictures they were finally posting after a lifetime of not feeling<\/em> <em>\u201cbeach body ready.\u201d Their confidence made it impossible to not pay attention to the Mean Things I was still saying to myself (see page 76 if you\u2019re bouncing around). The contrast was stark\u2014and then one day, I had enough. So I stopped.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>OKAY . . . I feel like I can hear you yelling at me through the pages:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#30408f\"><p><strong>\u201cOH YEAH,<\/strong> <strong>SURE, KATIE,<\/strong> <strong>YOU JUST<\/strong> <strong>STOPPED? <\/strong><br><strong>IT<\/strong> <strong>WAS THAT<\/strong> <strong>EASY, HUH?\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Well, not exactly, because learning to pay attention to and keep track of your negative thoughts is hard. It\u2019s the opposite of fun. But guess what? If you\u2019ve read chapter three, you\u2019re already well on your way.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\">How to Stop S***-Talking Yourself<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em><strong>Step 1: <\/strong>Pay attention to the shit-talking (again, see chapter three).<\/em><\/li><li><em><strong>Step 2: <\/strong>Scare your Mean Themes and scary words by telling them \u201cYou hold no power over me!\u201d<\/em><\/li><li><em><strong>Step 3: <\/strong>Your negative thoughts will become less aggressive after Step 2, but, guaranteed, they will still appear. Sometimes new ones pop up out of nowhere! Don\u2019t freak out when this happens. Just yell \u201cNOPE!\u201d at them inside your brain.<\/em><\/li><li><em><strong>Step 4: <\/strong>Replace every negative thought with a positive thought.<\/em><br><br>That\u2019s kinda it. But don\u2019t worry. I\u2019m gonna coach you through it&#8230;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\">How to &#8220;NOPE&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Stand in front of the biggest, tallest mirror you can find. The goal is to get the fullest possible picture of yourself.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Now observe: <\/strong>How do you receive yourself in the mirror?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>You may find yourself immediately drawn to all the flaws. You may notice new so-called flaws. You may add even more items to your never-ending \u201cto improve\u201d list. Whatever\u2019s going on in that brain of yours, channel your inner mascot, put your hands on your hips, and say a firm and clear NOPE!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal is to shut down that shit-talking before it can even begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>\u201cHey stomach, why are you so\u2014\u201d <strong>NOPE!<\/strong><\/em><\/li><li><em>\u201cHey nose, you stin\u2014\u201d <strong>NOPE!<\/strong><\/em><\/li><li><em>\u201cHey acne, you are ruining my\u2014\u201d <strong>NOPE!<\/strong><\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Nope, nope, nope. Just NOPE! Like you\u2019re telling a toddler that touching a hot oven is not a good idea.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>I\u2019m not asking you to write a sonnet to your cellulite or to sext yourself photos of your own ass or to propose to your arm jiggle. I\u2019m not asking you to declare your love for your teeth or your boobs or your ears. That wasn\u2019t my path. It doesn\u2019t need to be yours. Right now, all I\u2019m asking you to do is to block the shit-talk, remove the shame, and, eventually, stop equating your VALUE with these things.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>If you\u2019re struggling, consider this: Your job is to protect your mascot, right? And she\u2019s a child, right? The compliments don\u2019t have to be related to what you\u2019re NOPE- ing right now\u2014they just have to be about you.
