They say mom knows best, and when it comes to skincare<\/a>, it can be argued that Korean moms really do! (And yes, I might be a bit biased.) If you\u2019ve ever come across my TikTok<\/a> or Instagram<\/a>, you may have seen<\/a> my <\/a>mom<\/a> featured<\/a> because she\u2019s been inspiring my skincare<\/a> rituals for as long as I can remember. For her, skincare goes beyond looks\u2014it\u2019s a way of life that\u2019s linked to whole-body health. These are my most cherished \u201cKorean mom skincare tips.\u201d\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n

Skin care = selfcare<\/div>\n

Many Western cultures treat skincare<\/a> like a chore; Koreans have a more holistic approach. We think about skin being the largest organ that\u2019s connected to our internal health, just like all our other organs. My mom always took her skincare<\/a> time as an opportunity to mentally unwind<\/span>\u00a0and look after her<\/span>self<\/span>. I\u2019ve seen her perform her skincare ritual for\u00a0<\/span>more than\u00a0<\/span>an hour (!) because she\u2019s enjoying it so much. Try reminding yourself that skincare is a special gift and moment to tear yourself away from the stressors in life.\u202f\u202f<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Prevent sun damage before it happens<\/div>\n

Koreans are *huge* on preventative sun care<\/a>. If you step outside on a sunny day in Korea, at least half of the women are carrying sun-blocking umbrellas\u2014that\u2019s how much sun damage is feared. In contrast, many western cultures spend small fortunes on products and treatments to try and erase sun damage<\/a>. My mom tries to avoid harsh products, so she\u2019s always been hardcore about sun protection to avoid fine lines<\/a> and pigmentation<\/a> in the first place. If you haven\u2019t worn SPF<\/a> daily until now, I\u2019m not here to shame you. (But really, start today. Mom will be proud!)<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Method matters<\/div>\n

Westerners\u00a0<\/span>can\u00a0<\/span>tend to use their entire hand to slat<\/span>h<\/span>er on skincare. Koreans do not. Why? Because it can cause wrinkles<\/a>! When my mom performs her skincare routine<\/a>, it looks like she\u2019s doing a little tap dance on her face with her fingers. Try gliding and tapping on products, rather than slathering. The benefits can be both short term (face massage) and long term (smoother skin<\/a>).<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Order is everything<\/div>\n

Mom believes that for max efficacy and absorption, it\u2019s not only which products you use, but also the order in which you apply them. Her rule of thumb: After cleanser, work your way from the thinnest to the thickest formulas. Here\u2019s her foolproof routine. (I know it seems long, but I promise after you do it a few times, you\u2019ll remember it forever.)\u202f<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>
